Clemente Martínez Elementary was named for one of the first Hispanic principals in HISD. He also served as an assistant principal and district superintendent during the 1970s. The school named in his honor opened in 1994.

The area is predominantly Hispanic/Latino & African- American and rich in cultural heritage, with strong community ties and active neighborhood organizations. Many families in the community speak Spanish at home, and there’s a deep emphasis on family and tradition. The neighborhood has faced economic challenges but is also experiencing gradual revitalization. Clemente Martinez Elementary plays a crucial role as a community hub, providing academic, social, and family support services to meet the diverse needs of its students and families.
